How to depress a depression
This is not what I'm searching for.

Much has been written and said about depressions. It is a widely discussed subject and an illness or suffering that can have very different causes. A depression is: being weighed down by the suppression of something within yourself. Why is it so hard to lift depression? Why is a person depressed in the first place? Causes, manifestation and treatment are discussed briefly here.
A person is depressed because the awareness of a certain feeling is too hard to bear for him or her. It must therefore be hidden, and as a result, one does not feel oneself. The mind regulates this by itself, as if on command and out of self-protection against suffering and fear. Depression is best cured by the awareness and internalisation of what it is that is so difficult. This is easier said than done. When depressed you feel heavy, listless and apathetic. It takes a lot of energy to suppress that which you uncunsciously don't want to know or feel. Still, that is what you do, for you never know what might emerge and whether you will be able to cope with it. In other words: nature does its service to you automatically, and in a protective way. This is why the depression is not an escape but rather some kind of survival solution of the psyche. You do not 'depress' consciously. Conscious escapes are alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, sex addiction with all the excesses that go with it, gambling, excessive telephone usage, etc. This is often a way to suppress anger, grief and powerlessness. The reasons for this may vary widely.
Self-oppression and psychosomatics
If an emotion is not allowed to manifest or itself or be expressed in the proper context, it has to be suppressed. The amount of energy this costs produces a depressed feeling. What is a depression but a powerful energy blockage? Where to go with this energy? Energy is wandering through the body, straying off the healthy path. This may cause, for instance, gastric disorders, headaches, cramps and tensions in general - complaints the doctor says he cannot localise. It will pass off in time, and if not, feel free to come back... If the symptoms persist, serious diseases might develop as a result of a prolonged blockage of the flow of energy. That is something the doctor has not thought of or foreseen!
A remedy
How can you fight something if you do not know what it is? There are many therapies for depressions. One method is pharmaceutical medication. While medicines may offer a temporary solution, they usually do not take away the cause. They temporarily smooth things down. The cause of the suffering has to be found to deal with it once and for all. This is a very time-consuming process and requires a lot of patience. As a consequence, it remains to be seen if you will really manage to reach the misery within.
Because depression is such a vague phenomenon, many obscure treatments are suggested, often with lots of bookish words. Names for syndromes are very limiting and narrow the perspective. A person with a depression is oppressed enough as it is and is looking for space to free himself of his gloominess. If the energy can flow freely again, suppressed fears may dissolve. But the proof of the pudding is in its eating. Here, acupunture may bring relief.
Acupuncture
Long ago the Chinese discovered that energy flows through the human body in a certain order. Disturbance of this energy circulation may lead to a certain illness or disorder. The main flows Yin and Yang are no longer in balance. With very fine needles an acupuncturist can send the derailed energy back in the right direction and restore balance. In many cases, patients have already visited a regular doctor or therapist and know what is wrong to a certain extent. They opt for the least radical and very inexpensive cure: acupunture. This is a lengthy and painless treatment without side effects and does not involve medicines or long conversations. It only requires a lot of patience. Recovery is very gradual and may take years.
Success can not be guaranteed, but it doesn't hurt to try.
