Healthy eating during the holidays

Christmas, St Nicholas, new years eve and birthdays, all great parties. Only, during these days it is very hard to eat healthy. Almost everyone gains weight during these periods and after this almost the entire population participates in a massive diet.  How do you ensure yourself of maintaining weight and not clogging your arteries?

It seems like an impossible combination: the holidays and eating healthy. But nothing is impossible and it is even pretty easy to get through these periods reasonably healthy. It all depends on what choices you make. Obviously you need  a little understanding of healthy eating, but you should also be strong enough to make choices and not yield to the fattier choices you can make.

Drinking

Of course everyone want a glass of wine or beer during a holiday. But the problem with alcohol is that a lot of  calories go in unnoticed. Of course you can drink, a holiday must be nice and cozy, and not feel like a day of strict diets. All you have to do is alternate a glass of wine or beer with a glass of water. Because of this you drink half as much alcohol and therefore half of the calories get in!

Food

Choose lean varieties. For example if you go gourmet, you can choose what you take for meat. So take the healthy and lean versions, such as a piece of chicken instead of a hamburger. You can also apply this principle when you go out for dinner; choose fruit dessert or sorbet icecream instead of a cheese platter. On New Year's eve the same story; choose an oil-dumpling or apple fritter instead of an apple turnover.

So as you can see you don't  have to abstain yourself from everything during the holidays. Just make sure you make the right choices and you will easily get a lot less calories in, which will get you through the holidays without gaining pounds.
