What is Reiki

Reiki is a healing technique which dates back around 2500 years, but was forgotten for a long time. In the nineteenth century the technique was rediscovered by dr. Mikao Usui, who transferred this practical knowledge through oral tradition from teacher to teacher. These most prominent teachers are usually called the masters. They formed the line through which reiki was passed on and posses the energy of this tradition.

What is reiki

The word reiki is a Japanese term. The first syllable, rei, means spirit, aura or subtle energy and the second, ki, means energy or force. In various cultures or spiritual movements different names are used for this energy. In China it's called chi, in India shakti or prana. In the western world we use terms as universal life force, cosmic consciousness and divine energy.

Channel

Reiki is a system used to channel life force or subtle energy. The person who gives reiki sends energy to the patient via their body and out of their hands. This is learned through inaugurations in which the student is tuned as a channel by a reiki-master. Reiki energy is universal and knows no boundaries. When the reiki flows through the practitioner they not only give a treatment, but receive one at the same time. The inauguration and the connection with the reiki origin prevent that they take over bad or ill energy of the patient. This connection also protects the patient against possible negative energy of the practitioner. All that is sent, is pure healing energy, reiki. That's why it's such a safe system.

The healing force

Reiki is an intelligent force, so the practitioner doesn't have to steer it with their mind. The energy goes to places where it's needed. The patient doesn't have to undress, because reiki goes through clothing, blankets and even plaster.

For everyone

Reiki is above every dogma or beliefs system. It's not even necessary to believe in reiki, because it works anyway. Sometimes my partner is extraordinarily sceptical. When he once had a stomach ache, I placed my hands around the painful area. He didn't really believe reiki could actually change anything, but after approximately ten minutes the pain was gone. He was surprised, but was also open to my explanation.

Love

The way I experience it, the essence of reiki is love. As soon as I put my hands on someone, my heart opens and I feel connected to the other person far past the personal level. A pleasant energy will spread itself through my body, warm and tingling, and goes into the other person's body through my hands. I've changed to using the word person, because I find the word patient to be negative.

What can reiki do for me?

Someone's experience during a reiki treatment depends on what they need at that moment and how sensitive they are to subtle energy. Some people only feel nice and relaxed, while others experience violent physical and emotional reactions, which suggest that the healing processes of the body have been triggered. Reiki is very good to detect weak points in the body. It works as a flow of energy, removes obstacles, strengthens the circulation both on a subtle and a physical level, and balances the constitution.
